JohnJohn “SemorBugs” Young:

John developed his underwater passion in 1981 with a slightly unorthodox baptism – shagging balls from ponds on a local New Jersey golf course with the aid of a steel 72 tank & double hose regulator. Then, as a college student in landlocked Arizona, he traded the heights of extreme freestyle skiing for deep water depths.

Now with more than 1,000 dives logged, John finds Zen inside Florida’s underwater caves. He has descended beyond 230 feet and traversed more than a mile in some of these magnificent and mysterious veins of our planet. An equally avid spear fisherman and ocean wreck explorer, John particularly enjoys decompression dives breathing mixed gases. He counts sharks, puffers, big eyed squirrel fish, sting and mantra rays, lobsters and eels among his best friends.

A graduate of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, John uses the knowledge he gained from his Bachelors degree to sell commercial telephone systems and data equipment, the profits of which finance his dives (and also pay the mortgage). A fun loving and infectious, “people person”, John loves teaching students the safety and science of scuba.
